Farmers Market
on Airline Drive
There are many Farmers Markets in the Houston area. Most are populated by local farmers, and they tend to sell organic, fresh meats and produce. However, their prices are equal to or more than the grocery stores.
The Farmers Market on Airline Dr. is a cooperative of Hispanic vendors occupying small booths and selling vegetables, spices, and herbs. The prices are much cheaper than elsewhere. 90% of the customers are Hispanic, and if you wish to converse with the vendors, be prepared to conduct the conversation in Spanish.
The prices are very good. For example, on our shopping trip today, we bought a watermelon for $1.00. At a yuppie mart we were in earlier, a similar one was $6.75. In our neighborhood grocery store, it would be $3.99.
